Turning Value-Based Care From a Payer Slogan Into a Provider Conversation

A healthcare IT company helping providers and health plans with risk adjustment and quality at the visit had a story clinicians were not ready to hear. Value-based care still sounded like a payer program. We built a short series that explained it as practice performance, then handed every download to a consultant.

Providers heard a payer program. The company was selling practice performance.

The company helps providers and health plans do the work value-based care actually requires: risk adjustment, quality of care, and the care gaps that show up in a visit. The technology mattered. The first problem was language.

Say “value-based care” to a physician and many still hear a health plan. Risk adjustment can sound like a coding exercise done to the practice, not for it. A demo in that frame does not get a second meeting. People were already searching for value-based care. The client was not the explanation they found.

The brief was not “make a podcast.” It was to get a clinician far enough into the idea that a consultant call would be welcome, and to leave something on the site that would still be useful after the launch ended.

Three episodes, in the order a practice would ask the questions

We kept the brand light and led with the category. The series answered three questions, in order: what value-based care is, why it matters to a practice, and how providers benefit. A physician could start at episode one without already believing the product pitch.

1

What it is

Value-based care in practice language, not payer language. The point was to replace the slogan before anyone talked about software.

2

Why it matters

Quality, cost, and open care gaps at the visit. This is where risk adjustment starts to sound like performance, not extraction.

3

How a practice benefits

The episode a consultant can walk into. By then the listener has chosen to learn, which is a different call than a cold demo.

Promotion that did not feel like an ad for the platform

Every channel pointed at the same campaign page. The offer was the series, not a meeting. Email went to the CRM and to acquired lists. LinkedIn was geo-targeted. Physician-association banners and social ran in New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. Anyone who downloaded an episode was followed up by a consultant.

In parallel, the website was rebuilt around the same idea: risk adjustment, quality, and care gaps at the point of care. The series needed a home that would still rank and nurture after the paid placements stopped.

One page, every channel

Email, LinkedIn, association placements, and social all landed on the series, with a reason to finish it.

Named states, light brand

New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. The education carried the message. The logo did not.

A call after the download

Interest did not sit in a list. A consultant followed up with people who had already started the series.

A site that could keep the story

The public site explained the offer in the same language, so the episodes had somewhere to live after launch.

People took the series, then kept finding it

The launch window produced 154 downloads. In the first six months the series passed 600. Later downloads included people who found it by searching for value-based care, not only people who saw the original email or ads. The episodes and the site stayed in use as thought leadership and as a lead stream.

The part that mattered for sales

The category got explained before the product did. Consultants called people who had already chosen to learn. Marketing kept an asset, instead of a flight that ended when the media did.

Need the category explained before the demo?

If your healthcare IT offer has to make sense to clinicians before finance will hear it, we can build the story and the path into a conversation sales will use.

  • Healthcare IT sold into providers and plans
  • Care coordination and risk adjustment, in practice language
  • Content, promotion, and a human follow-up
